Holiday Happenings along the Southern Maine Seacoast

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

Yes, it's getting chillier out there, but summer is only 7 months away!

While we warm up, remember that some of the biggest events of the year

will be happening in December! In this newsletter we highlight some of our favorites.

Make your December reservations at Seaglass Village now as Christmas starts early in the greater Kennebunk-Wells-Ogunquit area. Seaglass Village is perfectly positioned for easy rides to events in each area. Bring the family or travel as a couple and make holiday memories in Maine!

KENNEBUNKPORT

Kennebunkport 42nd Annual Christmas Prelude begins 11/30 and runs through 12/10.

Kennebunkport has been voted as the #2 Christmas Town in America by HGTV. Get in the

Christmas spirit by visiting this New England seaside town. Hop on a holiday trolley ride, wave to Santa on a lobster boat, join the caroling, and look on with awe at the tree lighting, fireworks, and more. Visit for the whole two weeks or time your visit to coincide with your favorite Christmas activity. Go to christmasprelude.com for a detailed schedule of events. Plan early.

OGUNQUIT

Christmas Prelude brings in thousands of visitors from all over!

Ogunquit, named by the Abenaki as “Beautiful Place By The Sea”, also has big plans for a Christmas celebration. The 37th Annual Christmas By The Sea takes place 12/8-12/10. The schedule includes tree lighting, craft shows, concerts, children’s activities, pictures with Santa

by the Christmas Trap Tree, and more. Visit https://ogunquit.org/christmas-by-the-sea/ for more details.

WELLS

Last but not least is our own 38th Wells Christmas Parade to be held on Sunday, December 10 at 2pm and will follow a 1.5 mile route starting at Wells Plaza, heading north on Rt. 1 to Wells Junior High School. Go to wellschristmasparade.com for up to date information. Make it a trifecta and visit Perkins Cove Candy Store, family owned for over 40 years, 966 Post Rd., perkinscovecandies.com , and the Holiday Market at the Meetinghouse, (circa 1862), 9am-2pm, 938 Post Rd, Wells, wellsogunquithistory.org. Also at the Meetinghouse, Morning at the Museum takes place December 9, 10am-11am, a popular children’s program where they will enjoy a selection of different actives.

TRAIL OF THE MONTH

While the many beaches in Wells provide lovely winter walks in the bracing Maine sea air, other trails are also available for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

Wells Reserve at Laudholm, 342 Laudholm Farm Rd, is a short 12 minute drive from Seaglass Village. Enjoy the scenery of the many trails or take part in their 12/16 Wild Wonder Forest Bathing, an immersive sensory experience in the woods. Details found at wellsreserve.org. Reservations required.

BEACH OF THE MONTH

Being only 1.6 miles to beach parking at the end of Ocean Ave, (free in December!), Seaglass Visitors would be remiss to pass up on walking the beach in the winter! Many locals find it the best time of year to do so. After parking at the North Beach Lot, either head north along Moody Beach to Moody Point, (1 mile), or south to Ogunquit Beach, via North Beach and Footbridge Beach, (3 miles).
