Great place to stay! Celebrated my boyfriends 50th!! Surprise weekend away-we were both very happy with the accommodations-we'll be back!
Great to hear you and your boyfriend had such a great weekend away! Thanks for sharing your review, and we look forward to hosting you for your next visit!
Walking into the cottage every inch was sparkling clean and full of decor that left no doubt it was a coastal cottage. The kitchen was stocked with all the gadgets and dishes we needed for our 2 week stay. The furniture was very comfortable and my family especially liked the large sectional in the sun room. Even though we were in the area to enjoy the beaches, we did spend some time in the community pools. The adult only pool at the clubhouse was very large and the heated salt water was very refreshing on cooler days. I forgot to bring a book and was pleased that the community had a large selection of books in the library at the clubhouse. The cottage is very close to numerous beaches. But, parking at the beaches is very expensive. The alternative is to use the very affordable trolley system that runs from Kennybunk Port to York beach(with a few transfers). There is a trolley stop for southern destinations in front of the community and the stop for northern locations is a short walk away. The trolley's cannot be flagged down and you can only get on if you're at a designated stop. Our experience was that a trolley came by every 20 minutes. We ended up eating out most evenings but if we had wanted to grill out, there was a great gas grill on the patio in the backyard. This cottage is in a community that is approximately 1 mile from front to back. Most members of the community appear to be retired but there is a smaller pool set aside for families with children under the age of 18 (note there is no play ground for kids). The clubhouse and adult only pool is located atleast 1/2 mile from the cottage and there is no parking for cars (with the exception of disability place card holders). The parking lot is for golf carts and that is the mode of travel for most people in the community. It would have been a nice perk if the rental would have included a golf cart. There are golf carts available for rent ($35 per day) and we ended up renting a cart for part of our stay. The only issue we had during our stay was the inability of the wifi to allow more than 2 devices to connect at one time. That is a minor issue if you are disconnecting during your stay but our family use our iPads to read and it was a constant tug of war as to who was able to use the wifi and for how long. Despite that minor issue, everything else about our stay was relaxing and I would highly recommend this cottage to folks looking for a place to stay in southern Maine.
Thank you for your very thorough review! You have painted a very accurate picture of how our community is laid out. As you mentioned, most of our owners and renters use golf carts to get around because of the sprawling layout (though some do enjoy the long walks), and some of our rental cottages do offer the use of carts during your stay. We will pass along your feedback to the cottage owner about the wifi situation. Perhaps that's something that can be improved for the future. We're very happy to see that overall you were pleased with your stay. We look forward to hosting you when you're back in the Wells area!
